A ghost museum is quite literally an out-of-this-world project, but the designers from Theme Reno took on the Cool Ghost Museum in Georgetown, Penang with creative finesse, creating a viewing gallery that is chilling on one hand, but captivating nonetheless.

“The Cool Ghost Museum design concept is based on five different countries,” say Cool Koe and Kelvin Goh of Theme Reno. “The brief called for more than twelve scenes which should reflect the culture and atmosphere of those five countries. Additionally, the environment in the museum should evoke a sense of” realness “or “in to the other world” sort of feeling for visitors.” The scenes include: Malaysian kampong settings during the 50’s, 60’s and 70s; a China house set in the 20’s, an Egyptian cavelike tomb, Western/European settings and a Japanese exhibit.

Each of the twelve scenes is set in a dark and sombre atmosphere, where rustic materials further add on to the eerie environment.

From the re-enactments of Chinese afterlife rituals and Japanese demons to Egyptian tombs and more, the Cool Ghost Museum offers visitors plenty to see.

Colours are also an essential feature to highlight different elements to tell ghostly stories from different countries.
