Like people, every young bird eventually leaves the nest. Some sooner than others, some when a proposal of marriage finally surfaces, and some like myself, only when bitten by the reality bug. I am 27, single and still living with my parents. If my fears come true, and I am doomed to live a life of a spinster, I might as well do so in a home of my own. So then it was decided, rustling my feathers out of the comfort of my parents’ home, I purchased a cute little two bedroom apartment in Mont’ Kiara. And without any experience at all in home shopping, I then asked myself – now what?

My friends started to pour in with suggestions – there’s a good furniture shop in Dutamas, an experienced kitchen designer in Bukit Bintang, an inported wall coverings company in Jalan Ampang… but the thought of traveling all over Klang Valley and further to begin the renovation and decoration of my home tired me out immensely, until I saw an advertisement that must have been sent to me by God. A one-stop centre for every home related product and service under one roof called Viva Home. Who would have thought of such a brilliant concept!

So things started to perk up for me. My headaches vanished when I learnt Viva Home is situated smack in the middle of town on Jalan Loke Yew with ample parking of over 2,000 bays. But I decided to have a full on adventure and got on the LRT instead, stopping at the Miharja LRT station and crossed over on the pedestrian bridge. Shivering with excited anticipation, the first thing that popped into my head like a little speech bubble was “This place is HUGE!” Not a lonely one or sad two, but five whole spacious floors dedicated to assist me in creating my perfect home. With my floor plan in tow, I embarked on a journey into Viva Home.

The flow of the mall was seamless, the wide aisles taking my footsteps along every corridor so no nook or cranny was left unexplored. The Lower Ground floor provided me with chic cafes for breakfast and a bank to withdraw some cash before browsing through lifestyle furniture and home décor accessories. Up one level was the Giant Superstore (reminder to self: stock up the fridge before heading home), courtyard living and garden accessories where I found a lot of ideas to spruce up the garden in my parent’s home and was busy making purchases until I remembered I was here to buy for my own place! Old habits die hard that’s for sure.

Heading up to the first floor was like introducing Alice to Wonderland. Everything I needed to know about living and bedroom furniture, bathroom & accessories, textiles and wall coverings were laid out in front of me, completely at my disposal. I was happy to see a range of mid and high end brands and products of modern designs and quality. Needless to say, I spent hours on the first floor alone and had to remind myself I still had other parts of my home untouched. After swiping the credit card a few more times, the second floor enabled my creativity and imagination to play out as I shopped for ID materials, grilles, doors, flooring, kitchen & dining and lights. I also walked passed kid’s furniture shops. No signs of a baby bump here anytime soon anyways.

At least 5 hours of easy going, hassle free shopping and almost 90% of my dream home beginning to materialize in my mind, a treat was due. The upper most floor of Viva Home revealed a 9-screen MBO Cineplex as well as ICT Gadgets where all the latest gadgets and hand phones could be found- a gift to me for accomplishing such a difficult task all by myself? Why not. I also had Viva Home to thank of course, for a home haven was found on every floor.
