Young House Love
13 January 2012,
The blog was originated to keep their family in the loop as John and Sherry Petersik renovate their home in Richmond, Virginia. Since starting in September 2007, the couple now maintains the blog full time, keeping it real, fun, enthusiastic and imperfect. The DIY spirit caught on with the readers as most of them like to click on the ‘Project’ button and explore the comprehensive tutorials.
WHERE DO YOU GET THE INSPIRATIONS AND IDEAS FOR YOUR DIY PROJECTS?
All of our inspiration usually comes from a need or a desire to change something in our house. Be it for functional or for aesthetic reasons, sometimes we just get excited to tweak something (with paint or fabric) or build it from scratch. We also love checking out books, magazines, websites, and places like http://pinterest.com/ for inspiration.
HAS WRITING ABOUT YOUR DIY EXPERIENCES HELP IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS AND THE OUTCOME OF YOUR PROJECTS? WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR EXPERIENCES?
Blogging definitely keeps us motivated and excited! Without people checking in on us we wonder if we’d lose momentum, but knowing there are people stopping by and cheering us on keeps us going!
YOUR FIRST BOOK IS SCHEDULED TO BE PUBLISHED IN 2012. HOW DOES IT FEEL? HOW WILL THE BOOK BE DIFFERENT FROM THE BLOG IN TERMS OF CONTENT?
We’re beyond excited! It’s going to feel so incredible when it’s all done and we get to hold the book in our hands. It’s going to have 250+ ideas and anyone can flip through it and do whichever one they’d like. It’ll be different from the blog because it won’t be in chronological order or just be about our house. But it’ll be like the blog because it’ll still have the same fun writing and lots of pictures and tutorials.
