Aesthetic Simplicity

13 October 2010,

He began his career in television as a commercial talent – taking the role as a postman in a shampoo commercial, and then shortly thereafter he was cast by the late Yasmin Ahmad in her interracial love movie Gubra. Women around the nation would agree instantly with me when I state that his enchanting smile is truly what makes this heartthrob unforgettable. Down to earth, extremely friendly and so good to look at, local actor Alan Yun recently invited us into his home for a casual tête-à-tête.

Yun’s apartment is a corner unit that sees a split-level layout and boxy architecture – the kind of cutting-edge style hardly seen in today’s apartment blocks – one of those low-rise apartment blocks built in the 70s. Perched atop the hilly part of Taman Desa, his 1,000sq ft apartment unit boasts a soothing view of lush greenery.

“The façade of this building may seem retro, but I opt for modern minimalist concept when it comes to the interior of my apartment,” says Yun. Such contrast is obvious when one steps inside his unit.

The furniture are simple with aesthetic clean cut lines, thus drawing attention to the majestic arch of the famous Arco lamp in the living room. Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen which is definitely generous in space. A flight of stairs leads us to the second floor, which consists of a bedroom, a wardrobe room and a study. But the most impressive part of the house has got to be his closet, which sees an array of floor-to-ceiling cabinets thoughtfully stocked with his personal wardrobe, a bunch to thanks to sponsor Maxima.

“I only did minor renovation before moving in – removed the wall between the kitchen and the living room to add spaciousness and replaced the flooring tiles. Besides that everything else remained as I really do like the rustic original design. The apartment has a character on its own,” explained Yun.

His favorite feature in the apartment is the staircase which leads to the upper level of the apartment as this way he is able to have some “private space to himself”. “The apartment reflects my personality – simple and practical. But as each year passes and I gain more experience, so will the apartment go through minor changes,” said Yun.

The closet consists of two portable railing cabinets, in which Yun stores his shirts, jackets, tie, bags and pants, explaining that he only trusts Maxima when it comes to Wardrobe. “Previously I made do with only an ordinary closet where all my clothes were stuffed into, so you can imagine how impossible it was to find the clothes. Some were even buried so deep in that I had even forgotten about them entirely! But with the help of Maxima, now I am truly content. Maxima’s unique roller system allows the wardrobe doors to open with such ease and the full mirror is definitely my favorite feature.”

Maxima has so graciously custom made Alan Yun’s wardrobe to cater to his needs. The versatile wardrobe better keeps Yun’s clothes and accessories so long gone are those days of ‘lost clothes’. Maxima offers a wardrobe of clothing incorporating innovative solutions, slacks frame, so that he can more easily incorporate and select pants, and this feature allows admission to avoid the wrinkled trousers; three of the special admission drawers can neatly put put perfume and clothing accessories. In addition, Yun’s wardrobe also comes with a custom shoe rack, so that he can display a complete collection of shoes.
