Ancient Ideas & Modern Concepts
18 August 2011,

The mansion in Shanghai was first appointed to SRE Group (HK) to build, with a budget of RMB200mil in 2009. Located in the very prestige neighborhood of Shanghai Watertown in Zhu Jia Jiao, the property overlooks a beautiful lake – known as the “Greater Shanghai Garden” – which offers an impressive landscape advantage. Designed to be an exclusive high-end residence club, its interior decorations are valued up to 20mil with more than ten different kinds of facilities, including international conference rooms, winery, gyms, banquet halls, theatre, and spa – defining it as one of China’s top-tier ‘luxurious’ design.
In order to assimilate to current market trend, the initial design was positioned to be more European, neo-classical. But after an assessment of cultural heritage and geographical environment, the designers scrapped the original western concept and went with the alluring charms of traditional Shanghai houses – using famous references such as the very popular “Shanghai Bund”, Shanghai Peace Hotel, Pudi Boutique Hotel, Bund Twin Towers, International Hotel, Peninsula Hotel, Golden Gate Hotel, Shanghai Art Museum, Yang Tze Hotel, Pei’s ancestral house, Bund Pudong Development Bank, Shanghai customs, the Winter Palace Hotels, etc.
On top of which, the designer had travel to Europe to take in the traditional elements of architecture. The classy European touches mixed with Eastern elegance can be shown in the color tone and refinement of every selected furnishing and detail throughout the mansion.
The overall project took two years to complete – from the starting point with an idea to material selection, construction process, and environment. The fusion of Old Shanghai with Delta Western architecture displays a bona-fide combination of brilliance, creativeness and exclusivity.
