Charming Accomplishment

22 November 2010,

You’ve just moved into a new home and is so excited to begin the interior decorating – when alas! You realize that you’re on a tight budget. What to do first, where to renovate first … you’re frazzled with so many options. O&K Brand Solutions handled that dilemma perfectly, giving their satisfied customer a kitchen and bedroom made for royalty.

Annie with her husband and two daughters has just only moved into ResTrees, the first landed property development in USJ, Subang which follows the ‘Gated & Guarded Community’ concept. If you are wondering what the name means, its not referring to resting trees but a combination of the words “Residence” and “Trees”, creating a perfect balance of a suburban area with ample of lush greens. With the exterior of the 2 1/2 storey semi-D home already looking majestic in the jewel community – what was left to work on was the interior. But with a huge sum of their money invested in their new land, they but only have little set aside for the interior decorating and renovation. And so they called upon Alvin Ng and Steve Chew from O&K Brand Solutions to give them a hand to draft out a design based on the budget they had.

Alvin and Steve presented them with two practical solutions. They could either opt to design the entire house on the limited budget, or choose to concentrate on the essential parts of the home, then when appropriate, they could just pick up where they left off and design the other parts of the home. Obviously, they chose the latter, and put their trust and ideas entirely up to Alvin and Steve. It soon proved to be a decision that Annie and her husband made very wisely and left no space for regret.

With O&K’s expertise in wallpaper and interior designing, they first took on the task of creating a kitchen that is constructive with practical usage blended seamlessly with class and charm. No matter that it resembled a pristine showroom kitchen, the materials used to actualize the idea contributed to a kitchen that is arrestingly beautiful. The oven doors were lined with a sort of material imported from the USA, a laminate that resembles glass so that it casts a reflection. The rest of the cupboards reflected real glass and the walls were dressed in subtle beige wallpapers – omitting a vast and clean ambiance. Perhaps the most practical was the extractable kitchen counter next to the oven which allows the mother-chef to easily place hot baking dishes straight from the oven to the counter without having to take a step. She foresees the delicious aroma of cupcakes to soon waft through the kitchen.

The variations of wallpapers continue to change through out the home, symphonizing with the furniture fitting. The living room remains a cooling mixture of beige and earthy hues – bringing attention to the mini platform before the staircase heading upstairs – a space reserved for Annie’s two daughters to lounge and play on the smooth wooden floorboards. Right on the top floor is the sanctuary – the master bedroom. Originally a family living room, two bedrooms and a adjoining bathroom, Alvin and Steve has the original bedroom wall knocked down establish a larger bedroom space. The television area now adjacent to the bedroom, the bed faces what seems to be a large wall covered in Belgian wallpaper. But what lays concealed behind it is a walk-in wardrobe that even Carrie from Sex and the City would be seething with jealousy.

A door swings open to reveal the other side of the wall is a top-to-bottom mirror decorated with a gorgeous iron handle. Resembling a luxurious high-end boutique, the large wardrobe is divided into his and her wardrobes, and a dresser cum accessory drawer is shared by the couple. The make-up table which is positioned in front of the windows is also made of the sturdy classic iron, giving the boring conventional dresser tables a run for their money. Thus for now, the family can be proud of the beautiful areas in their home furnished and designed beautifully within their budget. As for the rest of the home, maybe soon at a later time we’ll have a chance to review as well, but that is an entirely different story.
