The Charming Story of Jordan Voon

Jordan Voon Saw Pheng is no stranger in Malaysia’s entertainment industry. The 46 year old from Kedah has been gracing television screens for the past 20 years. With such a strong background in the industry and traveling, we decided to pick his mind to find out what does a “home sweet home” mean to him.

With such a long close knitted relationship with the industry, Jordan Voon had contemplated and even came quite close to retiring from acting completely until fate offered him a role in ntv7’s 2009 television series The Iron Lady and then later on in Mystique Valley, another co-production of ntv7 and Double Vision which aired in 2010 and received the highest ratings for any local Chinese television drama. But it was 2011’s Footprints in the Sand that kept Jordan Voon in the industry up until today.

As his career escalates and his character changes, Jordan has been residing in the very same apartment during his years as a charming bachelor up until now, 15 years later and a loving and doting family man. Luckily for his wife, Jordan’s is extremely tidy and particular about cleanliness, “When I was single, my friends use to tease me and taunt that I am no guy because no guy’s house is ever so clean. Furthermore I took flower arrangements classes so there are always flowers in the house,” chuckled Jordan.

“But now that I’m a family man with children, things have turned topsy turvy! There are more things in the house, and more clutter too,” he shakes his head in slight dismay but still with an amused smile. Because space limitation is an issue, not everyone finds it easy to live in an apartment. Every now and then things need to be thrown away or donated to make space, and especially since Jordan loves his book collection and Buddha statues from friends, there is never enough space for storage.

When it comes to style, Jordan likes it all natural. “I like feeling a part of nature; hence I painted the living room walls apple green, and the master bedroom beige. But now that I have a child, my wife insists on securing the little one’s bedroom with steel rods over the windows. I must admit, I do not like steel or iron, but for security reasons, I really must put that at utmost importance.” Says the family man who now enjoys staying home to watch movies, surf the internet, spend quality time with his children or curl up in the most comfortable corner of his house with a book.

”Being a small family has its perks. I don’t like major cooking at home because although we have an exhaust fan installed, the space is small, and the intense smell from cooking will stink of the house. If we do cook, its very simple vegetarian or organic meals, but most of the time we’ll just head out to eat for all three meals.” Explains Jordan, who doesn’t mind having the simple sort of food. Along with being health conscious, Jordan minimizes the use of electronic appliances in his humble home to avoid radiation complications, hence only keeping the most necessary around such as the washing machine, computers, television and a few others.

At the end of the day, Jordan still prefers to have a landed property to call home. He likes the fact that his apartment car park is a large open air space, because when he goes to his car in the morning, and his feet are firmly on the ground, the sensation of the wind on his face and sounds of birds chirping brings a smile to his face every time.

”Family is very important, and a peaceful Zen like environment to live in optimal to create that harmony. With a child in the house, we have grown to have a lot of tolerance, patience and love. Besides, my wife and I hardly get into any sort of quarrels, so there’s a very loving vibe.” Says Jordan, clearly content with his way of life, but ideally, would love to have a home where the trees are abundance and the long grass sway with the wind.
