Visual Spectacle

5 August 2011,
Check out the new concept store by In Publishers!

Walk past iNShoppers.com at Viva Mall and you will stop, take a step back and stare at the store, asking, “What does this store sell?” Drawing a question mark out of passerby is what Edwin Cassian from Fix Interior intends to do when he designed the store.

Owned by iN Publishers, iNShoppers.com is the first retail store set by a publication company and is the brainchild of its founder, Iko In. The store serves as a supporting role for the website and also a platform for the publication to foster closer relationship with readers and clients. Here, an array of magazines and books are on sale, as well as exclusive crossover products by iN Publishers and its clients.

Lining the glass wall is magenta, the corporate color of iN Publishers. Inside, an all white ceiling-to-wall cabinet is set as the background, displaying magazines, books, knick-knacks and 5 televisions. Yes, 5! “If possible, we would like to add more,” said Edwin with a laugh. The televisions are placed there as part of the concept of the store.

As a publication house, iN Publishers’ role is to disperse and share information. Edwin chooses television to symbolize the mode of communication because of its lively visual, instead of the traditional printed material in the form of poster or signboard, which is the norm for retail stores. The television also serves to capture the attention of passerby and to imprint the image of the shop in their minds. “You may not remember the content or visual of what were on display but you will sure remember the shop with many televisions,” explained Edwin.

Edwin personally prefers clean-cut design, which can be seen in iNShoppers. The uncluttered look serves to widen the perspective of space as the store is not big. Even with a full height cabinets filled with a lot of items, everything is organized, displaying a neat ambiance.

The bar-style long table attached to the glass wall and tall stools give the store a sociable and relaxing vibe, paving the way for the store to set up future events by iN publishers.

The store is still in its infancy and both Edwin and Iko are still looking to fine tune it, further establishing its identity. “It’s easy to design but it takes effort to maintain it. We need to constantly upkeep the place otherwise the value and look of the design will be gone. It’s the same with any houses,” explained Edwin.

So folk, stay tune for more update iNShoppers.com!
