Grand Celebration
30 September 2011,
Viva Home celebrates its grand opening with special artists from Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Viva Home, the one-stop centre for homes celebrated its grand opening last month with special appearance by celebrities and aliens! Guests, shoppers, motorists and even nearby residents were treated to a video mapping showing aliens ‘attacking’ the mall. The video was broadcasted on the building facade and telecasted into the mall.
The grand opening was attended by over 1000 guests, with hundreds of shoppers enjoying the ceremony and show from the floors above. Performing at the event were Hong Kong stars Kevin Cheng and Fala Chen, and local stars, Dayang Nurfaizah and Faizal Tahir. Superstar singer Gary Chaw was also present, while celebrity Angel Wong
Chui Ling emceed the night away. Another highlight of the night was the entertaining acrobatic lion dance involving 8 lions with Viva Home logo on their foreheads.
Viva Home, which opened for business on 15 April 2011, is the first mall of its kind-offering a comprehensive mix of home products and services under one roof. The mall also has plenty of F&B outlets, an ICT zone, a 9-screen cinema, a superstore, an Expo Hall, a karaoke, food court and fashion bazaar.
Says Mr. Bernard Bong, Managing Director of Viva Mall Sdn Bhd: We are answering a demand in the market for convenience, diversity, choice and solutions. Viva Home is a concept unique to Malaysia and the mall is definitely a great attraction for urban shoppers today, as it houses a complete mix of home and living essentials coupled with lifestyle and entertainment outlets that suit all budgets and tastes.”
All He Needs Is A Good Bed
“Just the bed; give me something comfortable that i can sleep on as soon i lie down, with a soft pillow,” he says.
The fans were screaming as soon as Kevin Cheng arrived. The TVB heartthrob was wearing a hat, but the fans still recognized him. He smiled, waved and the crowds went into frenzy proclaiming their loves for him.
But why would this youthful looking actor hide his face under a hat? “I’m currently busy with a film project in China and the role requires me to be bald,” explains Kevin. Ah, such is the dedication of the man well-known through many popular TVB dramas, such as Under the Canopy of Love (for which he won the Best Lead Actor Award at the 2006 TVB Anniversary Awards) and Last One Standing.
With his busy schedule, he hardly gets to spend time at home – only going back to sleep. Given his limited time at home, he hasn’t put any serious thoughts into interior décor or furnishing, as he chooses to stay at serviced (full-furnished) homes and apartments.
Family Home
“Just the bed; give me something comfortable that i can sleep on as soon i lie down, with a soft pillow,” he says.

When asked if having a child influenced his decision in furniture, the man dubbed by the media as the Golden Melody King nodded in agreement. He started paying attention to safety details and the functionality of the furniture; round-shaped design is the preferred choice now and angular or glass-furniture is an absolute no-no.
Designing his own home was easy, as Chaw comes from a civil engineering background, so he understands structure and design. He often browses through home-interior magazines and books for ideas. If he sees a furniture design that he likes, he will have it custom-made to fit his home.
Due to his frequent travels between Taiwan and Malaysia, both of his houses in the different countries are designed to be simple and low maintenance. All of his furniture are purchased either locally or made-to-order, as he believes in supporting the local furniture industry.
Natural Beauty
“I wouldn’t buy something just for the sake of decoration. It must be functional. That’s why i prefer multi-purpose furniture,” says Fala Chen, when asked share how she chooses an items for her home.

Not what you’d expect from a former beauty queen. The former first runner-up of Miss Chinese International 2005 has charmed her way into the hearts of TV viewers through roles in Moonlights Resonance and No Regret, for which she took home the Best Supporting Actress Award in 2010 TVB Anniversary Awards.
As a rising star under TVB Productions, one would expect her taste to be more sophisticated. Yet this is one lady who values practicality over style. “For me, comfort is the most important feature of a home. I don’t need things to be big or grand, just that it has a purpose,” says Chen.
