Taking Care Of Business
10 January 2012,
There are few things in life more soothing and delightful than being wrapped in a fresh, clean towel right after bathing.
Everyday we put our garments, towels and linens into the wash, using way too much detergent. And unbeknownst to many, drying sheets and fabric softeners are actually damaging to towels and linens. Fabric softeners can cause build-up of residues on the fiber, making it hard to rinse out. To counter this, some people will resort to using bleach; however, bleach wears out the fiber and eventually, the towel will become dull, graying in tone and less absorbent.
Taking care of your towel:
1. It is recommended that you wash the towel twice before use
2. During the first wash, add one half to 1 cup of white vinegar to the wash water. This will help set the dyes and increase colorfastness.
3. Use less detergent than is normally recommended—about half is sufficient.
4. Unless necessary, avoid using bleach on a regular basis. Bleach has chemicals that dissolve fiber.
5. Never use fabric softeners; they decrease the towel’s ability to absorb water.
