Classic is not a word used to attribute Chinese antique furniture; rather, they signify traditions with roots that defy time and modernization. The late Ming period (1368-1644) was considered to be the Golden Age of Chinese furniture. The quality and accuracy of joinery was so precise that nails and glue were used only as supplements. Shanxi province developed the best quality lacquered furniture, usually in red or black, during the reign of Emperor Qian Long (1760-1795), which can be found in the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace in Beijing.
