She first emerged into the entertainment industry in 2004 with her first single titled ‘Still Be Friends’ which turned into a major hit and launched the KL-ITE’S career as a singer. She graced television screens, serenaded love songs and soon was spreading her wings across Asia to perform. Having just released her fourth album, we caught up with Yu Heng to find out her likes when it comes to creating a perfect home.



No doubt that a warmly furnished home is the easiest way to unlock any creative blocks. Even for a celebrity like Yu Heng, she enjoys just chilling at home with a movie, cooking or being outdoors with friends having a picnic, taking photos rather than spending a loud wild night out in clubs.

A homely sort of girl, Yu Heng has purchased an apartment back in 2009, without much thought about whether she was going to live there or rent it out. In the end she rented it out to a friend who had three little kittens. “It’s much cheaper to live with friends, and the company is always great,” she explained. But now her home is a house with three rooms, each taken up to be a work room, a guest room and of course, her own master room.

“My housemate and I came up with an idea of how we wanted our home to look like, and presented the collective plans to our interior designer so what you see is our own personal likings,” said Yu Heng, then further explaining that the interior is mostly white, complemented by gray shades which exudes a very simple yet stylish style.

“I really like the modern style especially when using steel and concrete elements. Since the sofa and tiles are in white, we broke the monotony by adding gray tones to the concrete walls and carpet. The end result is a style that is very cool. I’ve also created this coffee table in the living room that uses recycled wood, adding a slightly more natural feel into the space,” described Yu Heng.

In the front part of her living room however, is a cabinet made for stars. From the floor to the ceiling are built in shelves for her very impressive shoe collection, which is quite the opposite when it comes to her wardrobe. Her bedroom showcases an open wardrobe, with a railing of white curtains to pull close instead of actual cupboard doors. There will be plans for expansion surely as the cupboard is not large enough to accommodate all her clothes!

“In three to four years time, I wish to have already owned my dream home – a semi-detached house where I can unleash my creativity and unlimited imagination! I will still use white, I think, to achieve that cool modern style, and this time I’ll have a large walk-in-wardrobe to be able to store all my clothes!” gushed the songstress dreamily.

Plucking her mind out of the clouds, her current focus is her career as Yu Heng is very certain of her aims and aspirations. “Sure I love to sing, but I love music more. From now on, I want to concentrate on being a musician and hope to take on more producer-like roles, write more songs for the production of independent labels,” she explains with a glint of excitement in her eyes.

But is there love in the air for her right now? “I do believe that marriage is really up to fate. The stars will make the right decision when the time comes. I may say now I am not thinking of marriage, but really, who knows? Love does work in mysterious ways.”
