Suki’s Philosophy

30 October 2011
“Life is both positive and negative. God has given us the elements of nature, which can act as a source of inspiration – as far, wide, deep as the imagination can run. Different results will create different sparks.”

What feeling does a home give you?
For me, home and ‘business’ are not the same. A home should have family (or a partner), so my home is in Negeri Sembilan. I have three rooms in my home: a bedroom, a studio, and a room purposely sectioned off for my clothes and shoes. Haha! I don’t want people to know I have the third room, as it’s kind of superfluous. I used to always practice my singing in my studio, but then one day I heard my neighbors scolding at their children and realized they might hear me singing as well. So now, I just bury my head in my pillow and sing away. Haha!

Do you have any hobbies? What about at home?
I like hiking. Sometimes, my friends and I would hike continuously for 12 hours with fears strapped on our chest. But when we reach top and see the beautiful scenery, all the hours past and tiredness become worthwhile. I try to hike once a week, but now, thanks to my busy schedule, I can maybe get in one hike per month. Next to spending time with friends and work, I also enjoy lazy days at home. Sometimes, I’d even draw design spaces – taking cues from interior design magazines and foreign architecture; other times I’d write, cook, surf the web, watch movies, or workout.

Do you have plans on buying your own place?
Perhaps I’ve gotten older, but before I’d only think about buying clothes and shoes – now, I’ve stated to think about properties. In fact, I recently had a talk with my parents about buying one in two years, but they are insistent that it’s safer to buy an apartment instead. Somehow, I think finding the right house requires a little fate – so there’s nowhere in particular I’m looking to stay; but I do prefer it be away from the busy city and in a relatively quiet and comfortable neighborhood.

What does your dream house look like?
I think home décor is an individual flavor. I prefer absorbing new things and each family and home has its own flair. I think my design would lean towards modernism – abstract style with a bit of the commercial designs I’d see in interior magazines. I’d like my sofa to be a built-in, hallowed out style; interactive with a place where the remote belongs – kind of like being in a spaceship. Maybe I should have the sofa transparent. My kitchen must be equipped with a built-in microwave and over, so cooking is easy and convenient. The kitchen will definitely be in white, with wooden tables and chairs, some carved ornaments so it has a bit of my mother in it. Hehe! I’m quite loud when I’m out, always laughing and joking. But when I need a moment to myself, I’d just escape to my boudoir for some private time. I’d also have a Japanese-style bed mattress and an extra giant plush, so after enjoying a glass of wine on it, I can just pass out. Oh, we must not forget the walk-in closet – it’s indispensable. My clothes and shoes are therapeutic. My friends think (kind of bittersweet) that I like to sit inside, stare at my beautiful collection and suddenly all my troubles will melt away.

What are you aspirations?
I love music. My grandma sent me to music school without having much of an education herself, so she doesn’t really understand lyrics but know when a melody sounds nice. I especially like classical music, especially ole’ time folks. I would like to do more modern classical music, have more of an edge and fuse different elements together. But I also have many other interests – like design and writing, watch, clothes, etc. I hope to have my own brand eventually. Hah!
