The Yin & Yang Of Wilson Tan

03 February 2012,
His home is not only his sanctuary, a blissful haven – but also his centre for peace and relaxation. “At home, i am in my private comfort zone, safe from the eyes of others,” confessed Malaysian model Wilson Tan.

Wilson Tan is not just a pretty face; the model has mastered the art of contentment and relaxation as he had gone to Thailand for a month to join the monastery, escaping the hustle and bustle of city centers. “By joining the monastery, I learnt about the art of living. I now know that true happiness if not measured by how much you have and own, instead of how to cherish what surrounds us all.”

The Perak-born currently resides in an apartment with a few friends, but does not intend to be in the city all his life. “I would trade the city for the country-side in a heartbeat! Even thought I was only in Thailand for a month, I fell in love with it and all it has to offer. The lifestyle is easy and simple; the people are friendly with love in their hearts,” explained Wilson wistfully.

When asked about his childhood, Wilson reminisced about his large family home which he lived in until he was 15 years old, and then moving into a classic styled double storey townhouse which was filled with his father’s paintings. “My mother loved Peonies, so much so that she would use it to decorate almost every inch of the house! Especially her bedroom, which was a work of Peony art. I never understood why she loved it so much but Peonies will always hold a special meaning to me, “Wilson explained with a smile.

Having lived in the city, and intending to retire by the country, Wilson’s current dream home is one by the beach – a house with sun streaming in through the windows at all times, a breathtaking view of the ocean and styled with Balinese furniture.

The serenity of Wilson’s dream house is much like his attitude towards life. The model is thankful for what he has, what he has achieved and is humbled by the experiences he has gained along his journey. “I try not to get easily stressed, especially from work. I like to read a lot of self-motivation books. It spiritually motivates me. And when I’m not working, I love to travel and experience all the diverse cultures the world has to offer.”

In the New Year, Wilson will strive to be internationally renowned, namely in Taiwan, Chine and Hong Kong. The world should look out for Wilson Tan will soon be a name that every household will be familiar with.
