The autumn edition of MAISON&OBJET PARIS 2014 ran in tandem with the PARIS DESIGN WEEK, offering a plethora of events that celebrated design in different ways. In this second part of M&O PARIS 2014’s 3-part special, Creative Home takes you through the highlights of the design week in Paris.

Paralleling the MAISON&OBJET PARIS 2014 show was the fourth annual PARIS DESIGN WEEK: eight days of evening festivities, cocktail gatherings, presentations and events that kept the capital humming, uniting more than 120 locations and 250 participants.

“Sharing” marked this year’s theme, celebrating the event’s founding values. Galleries, showrooms, hotels, shops and institutions opened their doors to share their new designs for fall with professionals and the general public simultaneously giving MAISON&OBJET’s international visitors the chance to sample genuine Parisian lifestyle.

VENUE HIGHLIGHTS
Scheduled on Saturday, 6th September, through Saturday, September 13th 2014, the latest edition of PARIS DESIGN WEEK, in synergy with MAISON&OBJET PARIS, featured a superb line-up including:
• pop-up scenographies and events in more than 120 Paris venues;
• the work of more than 100 emerging designers from 15 countries presented on the stage of now! le Off at Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design ( parties and evening events in the showrooms and participating venues in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Le Marais,
Étoile-Opéra )
• an unprecedented panorama of international design in Paris and new partnerships with Design Weeks in Berlin, Tokyo, Mexico, Singapore, and elsewhere.

NOW! LE OFF
A key event of PARIS DESIGN WEEK, now! le Off is the fertile soil where young designers take root and take off. This is where names like Well Well Designer, Different and Different and Pierre Guillou – who can now been seen in now! design à vivre – were first spotted. Held at Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design, this completely free event supported the selection of a hundred emerging talents from 15 countries. This year, it brought together a hundred designers from 20 countries, all selected to compete for the Rado Star Prize France 2014.

DESIGNER VILLAGE
The Designer Village presented four talents from the younger generation, four intrepid designers with broad and varied inspirations: Adrian Blanc, Benjamin Faure, Roxane Andrèsand Aurélie Richard.

SAINT-GERMAIN
This district, a favourite with major left-bank furniture producers, came alive around Saint-Germain-des-Prés for the eight days of PARIS DESIGN WEEK. Preview cocktail parties by Boffi, Czech Cultural Centre, The Conran Shop, Galerie Elsa Vanier, Rémy Martin + ECAL and others were scheduled.

CHAMPS-ELYSÉES
Design has always felt at home around the most famous avenue in Paris, with museums and special sites joining into the creative energy of PARIS DESIGN WEEK.

THE DRUGSTORE
The Drugstore became one of Paris Design Week’s must see attractions, and this year this venue cemented its place with a refined selection of pieces collated in partnership with Intramuros magazine and a full day dedicated to design. On the agenda: a Master Class with Ora Ito and a special cocktail event with a live photo shoot directed by Fat & Furious.

ALEXIS TRICOIRE DANS LES GRANDES SERRES DU MUSÉUM NATIONAL D’HISTOIRE NATURELLE
Plant designer Alexis Tricoire took over the Greenhouses of the Jardin des Plantes, with an installation entitled ‘Hybridations’, revealing an astonishing landscape formed in partnership with the Fédération Française de la Brosserie.

PARIS DESIGN WEEK is now, more than ever, a bridge between the world of professionals and the general public. The event stands firm in its goal of making design more accessible, steering clear of intellectualism and preconceived notions, while enhancing the international reputation of Parisian creativity.
