/> As an innovative brand, Lucell is not contented with merely manufacturing a product. The brand seeks to challenge the common perception of safe with its superior design for the benefit of users. Here are examples of two innovative use of Lucell safes.
Safe has to be kept in a secret place
The conventional design of safe makes it instantly recognisable for its function of protecting valuables. Most of the time, new safe buyers will think carefully about the location for their safes, preferably to be placed at some cleverly concealed locations.

With LuCell safe, you can proudly displays it even in your living room, free for all to see. Not that they will know it’s a safe if you don’t tell. The elegant design makes it possible for the safe to be used as a side table or an embellishment for your living space.
Safe is used to keep money and jewellery
There are many things that can be considered valuable. By that, we mean more than just money and jewellery. There are many other things that are not necessarily valuable per se but they have a value for the owners for various reasons. Such items include works of art, antique objects, letters and even photos. You can also keep important documents such as certificates or passports in it.

Recognizing the importance of the various uses of safe, LuCell incorporates functional design in the interior of its safe. Some of the designs include internal drawers, glass shelves and light to help keep your valuable items organized. Other additional storage solution includes jewellery tray, card holder and key hanger.
Energy efficiency is the key word in today’s era of environmental concern. In addition to that, it is also affecting consumers in a personal way as it helps reduce the energy bill. If you are looking for something to help you save energy, E2SAVER is the answer for you. In the market since 2006, it’s easy to install and help save up to 40% of your electricity bill. There is no need to hack walls, make minor renovations, or buy any accessories. All you need to do is plug E2SAVER into any 13A 3-pin power outlet nearest to the distribution box (fuse box).

Life expectancy of the E2SAVER is a minimum of 8 years at a usage of 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In some cases, the life of the E2SAVER can be prolonged, for example in the office as the unit can be turned off when it’s not in use. Perhaps the most attractive offer for E2SAVER is their 60 days money back guarantee and a three year warranty against all defects including lightning strikes.
A Mouthful Of Delicious
In all my years of living in Bangsar, a burger joint most often visited is McDonalds that offers my meals fast, simple and with familiarity. But little did I know how much I have been missing out on until today where a decision to change my ways of habit has altered the way I look at burgers ever again.

Tucked away in the little corner of Bangsar Village 1’s lower ground floor resides The Daily Grind. The eatery that was established in December 2008 was previously a dark yet cozy little spot serving up delectable gourmet burgers until its revamp in September 2010. Although just moving to a opposite unit in the shopping mall, The Daily Grind has gone through a total revamp in the interior, logo and widening the selection in its menu.
The diner, though smaller but longer than the previous unit, is impossible to miss. The new look it carries loud and proud is fun, spunky and an eclectic mixture of modern lighting installations with slightly retro styled floor tiles and dining sets. It exudes a similarity to diners back in the 1950’s where you’ll expect your waitresses to usher you to your seats in roller skates. The revised logo arrests interest almost immediately – though simple it explains fully what The Daily Grind is all about and more. Accompanying the savory dishes is the off-the-wall fire-engine red mock pipelines against white bricked walls, the palette of coloured chairs and counter sofas which all contribute to an environment that is perfect to lounge.
The layout of The Daily Grind is purposely smooth, casually divided into three different areas; a row for the non-fussy walk-ins, the smoking area and bar and a room towards the back which is ideal for any event, birthday party or intimate gathering of up to 20 friends. The latter two receives most of the warm sunlight streaming in by the floor to ceiling glass doors which allows patrons to enjoy the view of Jalan Telawi or the other way around for curious passerby’s.

The extensive menu carries a wide variation for meat lovers, but not excluding those who prefer salads and seafood. But the specialty being burgers, patrons can dig into delicious juicy succulent beef or chicken patties that are made out of 180grams of pure meat with no fillers, topped with a healthier option of wheat bread. Our meal began with a Mexican favorite of Stuffed Jalapeño Peppers with almond cream cheese and sinfully cold creamy glasses of Malt Peanut Butter Milkshake, Bailey’s and Chocolate Milkshake and Espresso Milkshake, where we learnt after slurping through a huge straw that all the milkshakes are made with pure cream and ice-cream (which does make it a meal on its own for those who eat like birds!).
The luscious burgers had our mouths watering the minute it was served on our table, accompanied with a serving of fried and salad. The Japanese Yodel Burger is smothered with cheese fondue sauce, sautéed mushroom and topped with Portobello mushrooms while the slightly more refined Foie Gras Burger is generously topped with pan seared foie gras over a juicy beef patty with balsamic palm sugar glaze. There are also a long list of mains to choose from such as the Slow Cooked Lamb Stew that is meltingly tender lamb pieces braised in a dark and rich gravy of herbs and tomatoes and served with creamy mashed potatoes or the O’megal Salmon, a healthy think slice of pan-seared salmon steak with a light and tasty sun dried tomato sauce. Making every dish from scratch from the selection of quality and fresh raw food, a must try is the tomato and chili ketchup as it’s homemade and tastes like an explosion of natural fruits with each bite.
Located in Singapore’s Chinatown, this pre-war art deco 1928-vintage building was made over by a young lwayer turned hotelier and owner Loh Lik Peng who is also responsible for the award winning Hotel 1929. While the charming old colonial façade of the original hotel and shop houses have been maintained, the interior and ornaments used are anything but boring.
In interior decorating, mirrors are usually used to “open up” a small and narrow interior. It is a decorative element used as a way to reflect light, visually enlarge a space, and fill a space that needs interest.
But when the subject of Feng Shui comes into consideration, the most common misconception about mirrors is that it is used to reflect Qi. Mirrors, like all paintings and art, holds no Feng Shui significance to a home interior other than a psychological one.

So where did all this talk about the mirror reflecting Qi come from, you wonder? Back in the old days, mirrors were not made of glass, but of brass. Ancient texts refer to it as using the mirror to steal water or bring in Water (Qi) into the house via the mirror. The real explanation to this is a little more scientific. As olden day mirrors were made of brass, this was a Metal element object. Metal, in the study of the Five Elements, produces or attracts the Water element. Hence, it is common to find the mirror placed at the front door of houses.

But what if the mirror is in front of the Main Door? There’s nothing wrong with a Main Door that opens to a mirror in the hallway. As mentioned earlier, it may likely cause some psychological impact as people may be caught by surprised or shocked when they open the door to see themselves reflected in the mirror. Therefore, it has no real Qi effect at all in the context of Feng Shui.

Putting a mirror in the dining area doesn’t create ‘abundance’ in a home either. Just because it reflects the food served on the table does not mean it can ‘double the food’ so to speak. That’s an old housewives’ tale!

Simple common sense can clarify this whole misguided affair. If you want to double the food on your dining table, cook more! A reflection in a mirror is merely an illusion. When you finish your food in the real world, you’ll find that it’s not there in the mirrored world either.

Classical Feng Shui is not concerned with interior decoration. It is to do with the placement and alignment of key features like pathways, walkways, halls, rooms and working areas within your home that allow you to manipulate Qi to your own benefit. Also, the dining room is not regarded as one of the important factors of internal Feng Shui. This is because residents normally do not spend a considerable amount of time in the dining room to benefit or be harmed by the Qi in that area.

With all that said, you are probably wondering about the Ba Gua mirror used in Feng Shui. Though it is not uncommon to see Ba Gua mirrors used for spiritual purposes, especially those of the Taoist faith where Ba Gua mirrors are believed to be able to ward off evil spirits under certain circumstances. However, this has nothing to do with Feng Shui, as Feng Shui is not a religion.

Rest assured, in Feng Shui, the Ba Gua – without the mirror – is only used as a diagram for calculations and to derive formulas; a mathematical model of the universe where it is laid out based on the polarities of Yin (Negative) and Yang (Positive). Ba Gua, by itself, has no special powers.

If you want to use mirrors are a decorative element in your home, go ahead. Just don’t place it where you are likely to scare yourself by your own reflection!
Town Hall Hotel Apartments is set in an area of the East End that has long been typified by its authentic surrounds and diversity of restaurants and food, music, fashion, art and design culture. This pioneering new East End hot spot aims to catapult some exciting newcomers in the worlds of design, food and art into the spotlight.
The imposing Bethnal Green Town Hall, which has stood in the heart of London’s vibrant East End since Edwardian times, reopened its doors on April 2010 with the opening of Town Hall Hotel Apartments. After a visionary extension and a sensitive restoration under the direction of Rare Architecture, Town Hall will offer a new concept for London’s culturally diverse and energetic East End. Created by entrepreneur and hotelier Peng Loh, the spacious 98 hotel rooms and apartments combine the amenities and luxuries of a five star hotel with the space and style of a designer apartment. The imposing and traditional 1930s building with Edwardian frontage and Neo-Classical fine stone frontage has been restored and preserved by dynamic French duo Rare Architects. Retaining some original elements of the building such as sculptures commissioned from Henry Poole, enormous craftsmanship has gone into a sensitive restoration of wide marble halls, dramatic staircases and stunning public rooms which include a traditional council chamber and the original council meeting rooms.
Rare Architecture (directed by Michel da Costa Goncalves and Nathalie Rozencwajg) has also added a contemporary extension to Town Hall. Discreetly set back from the frontage, the addition forms a stunning new rear façade, marrying together three phases of construction. Rare has also adopted a cutting-edge technique that covers the new outer wall with a metal ‘skin’, laser cut in a pattern inspired by the art-deco metal ornamentation in the building’s original and still remaining Council Chamber.

Offering a mix of studios, one bedroom suites, two bedroom suites and feature rooms, every apartment is unique. With fully integrated kitchens complete with Corian work surfaces as well as bespoke, architect designed bathrooms every apartment has been individually designed offering original retro furniture mixed with contemporary Scandinavian inspired hand-crafted pieces. The apartments are further enhanced with lighting by Viabizzuno whilst the original sash windows flood the rooms with natural light.
Offering its own entrance, both residents and Londoners can enjoy one of the East End’s most anticipated dining experiences with the launch of VIAJANTE, from celebrated chef Nuno Mendes. Mendes’ vast experience spans his culinary training in San Francisco to working with some of the world’s leading chefs such as Wolfgang Puck, Rocco di Spirito and Jean-Georges Vongerichten in both New York and London. The adjacent VIAJANTE bar continues to reflect Mendes’ philosophy offering clean and interesting cocktails as well as modern and unique bar food.

Town Hall’s lower ground floor will house the hotel’s pool and gym. The pool area was designed in shades of white marble with touches of brass to recall the elegance and charm of a traditional spa. Natural light falls from the pool’s sky light and catches the reflective tiles which line the pool, turning the water a shimmering shade of green, blue and copper as the day progresses. The glass walled gym overlooks the pool and offers state-of-the-art equipment.
Enveloped in cool refreshing tranquility, Bayan Indah is reminiscent of a tropical resort. This is not surprising given its surrounding of tropical jungle. What was surprising is that this area is actually located in Kuala Lumpur. Located in a village in Sungai Penchala, it’s just ten minutes away from the affluent neighbourhood of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and approximately 30 minutes from the city centre.
An Electric Mix
No doubt part of the charm is the hidden location and of course the owner, the prolific food writer, stylish and chef, Rohani Jelani. She has converted her previous home to a homestay and also a venue for her cooking classes. But this is no ordinary cooking school. Calling it a school itself undermines the role of the place. “I wanted it to become an eclectic sort of landmark for modern Malaysian food, a place where people (especially foreigners) discover that Asian food is not only Thai or Indian or Japanese but can also be Nyonya, Malay, Malaysian Indian and Malaysian Chinese,” Rohani related her dream for Bayan Indah.

And as to reflect the diversity of Malaysian food, the furniture pieces here are also of mixed elements. In the verandah area, you can find Chinese antique stools, tables and cabinets sitting comfortably next to a very modern refrigerator, a contemporary dining table and chair set and a plush sofa. This area is also the main dining area where students can enjoy their cooking after their classes. Indeed, this is the perfect place to wind down after the ‘hard work’ of cooking, overlooking the greenery at the front of the house. The vast porch area also has a pond and two additional seminar rooms catering for corporate functions.
Dream Kitchen

To the left of the dining area is where the expansive kitchen for the cooking classes is held. Rohani is passionate about cooking and take a fun approach to teaching, making it an enjoyable experience for the participants. Far from learning in an enclosed and crammed kitchen, in Bayan Indah, your cooking experience is enhanced by the cool breeze of the surrounding tropical jungle, courtesy of the open-air kitchen and even a herb garden for you to nip some fresh herbs to add to your cooking.

Using her experience as a chef, Rohani designs this kitchen to be as practical as possible for any cook, be it novice or professional. A dream kitchen for many, the open-concept helps to heighten the vastness of the space. Equipped with a few working islands and numerous ovens, there is also a dedicated pantry room for tableware and cooking utensils.
Guest Rooms

The showcase of East meets West continues to the space upstairs, where it has been renovated and decorated to be comfortable guest rooms. Big enough to function as a house on its own, it comprises a master bedroom, three bedrooms, a living hall, a patio, a pantry area and even a dedicated room for laundry.

White neutral backdrop provides a blank canvas for art works and Asian antique to stand out. Unique glass art works, made by Rohani’s good friend, Penang artist Wong Keng Fuan adorn the walls while the furniture displays the fine craftsmanship of her carpenter, Mr. Lim.

Each of the room has its own name – Kantan (torch ginger herb or ginger flower), Kunyit (turmeric), Selasih (Thai Basil), Pandan – taking its inspiration from the herbs of traditional Malay cooking. All the bedrooms are fitted with en-suite bathrooms but take a deep breath before you go to the bathroom of the master bedroom – not only does it has an additional bathtub, it’s flanked by a large window with a wonderful view of the rainforest! The master bedroom, Kantan also displays eye-catching antique furniture especially the Oriental-style yellow lacquer screen, giving privacy to the bed yet a peek to the area reveals a fiery red headboard that begs to stand out no matter what’s in front.
Heritage Trail for Malaysian Food

Despite the somewhat hidden location, Bayan Indah has steadily grown in popularity with both the locals and foreigners, as seen in the positive reviews in local blogs and international travel website such as lonelyplanet.com and tripadvisor.com.

Truly a retreat, privacy is ensured as the place is not easily accessible and address is not given freely. However, a very detailed map will be given, complete with photos of landmarks to guide visitors. And when you are here, you will understand and know it’s worth the effort to discover the place.

With its electric mix of design and furniture, in addition to the tropical surroundings and resort-like ambiance, Bayan Indah is not far from what its owner has envisaged – making it a must-stop place for people who want to experience Asian and Malaysian cuisine.<br
